Visibility was reduced due to thick fog over Rajkot and surrounding areas this morning, disrupting air services.
A total of four flights were diverted by noon as landing was not possible. With all of these and other scheduled flights from noon to evening, approximately seven planes had to arrive in just four and a half hours in the afternoon, causing a commotion at Rajkot airport.
It landed in the morning against the required visibility of at least 1500 to 1500 meters for flight landing and between 8:30 am and 8:30 am the visibility was only 200 meters, due to which Air India flight from Mumbai to Rajkot at 8-10 am to Jamnagar was canceled. He was sent to Rajkot from there late and was sent back to Mumbai directly from here.
The flight had to be dealt with before the flight of private airlines landing from Delhi to Rajkot at 7.30 am and when the new time arrived at Rajkot at 10.30 am, the landing was not possible and the flight had to be sent to Ahmedabad by making five rounds in the sky. Passengers on the down trip from here to Delhi had to wait for hours at the Rajkot airport.
Two other flights of private airlines of Delhi and Mumbai with Rajkot arrival time till noon were also diverted to Ahmedabad, from where its arrival at Rajkot and return from here to Delhi, Mumbai became possible only in the afternoon. Passengers arriving in Mumbai or Delhi to catch connecting flights to other destinations were further annoyed by this.
Other scheduled flights were also arriving and departing at Rajkot Airport, with a total of seven flights landing and taking off from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. Passengers traveling from Rajkot to Delhi and Mumbai on these flights had to be accommodated in the waiting lounge for breakfast and the passengers of more than one flight at a time were shocked.
