Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) took a significant step forward in the treatment of accident victims on Thursday. They agreed to the proposal to provide free initial treatment to patients who were injured in an accident at SMIMER Hospital.
During a meeting held at the civic body’s head quarter office in Mughlisara, Paresh Patel, Chairman of the Standing Committee, approved the proposal. The proposal stated that people who were involved in accidents in Surat City and District would receive free initial treatment.
According to records, approximately 20 to 25 patients per day from the city come to SMIMER hospital for treatment after being involved in an accident.
Free treatment would be provided for the first 48 hours of treatment, after which the family would be responsible for any additional treatment costs. People would have to bring the patient to SMIMER hospital first; in the event of an accident, no patients referred from any other hospital would be given this treatment.
