The big day has arrived. Prior to the IPL 2022 super auction, the existing eight IPL franchises have announced their list of retained players. The five-time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) have also released their list in this regard.
The Men in Blue have retained skipper Rohit Sharma, bowler Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounder and vice-captain Kieron Pollard, and No. 3 batter Suryakumar Yadav. As a result, some of their marquee players, including the Pandya brothers, Quinton de Kock, Trent Boult, and Ishan Kishan, have been left out, stunning many of their loyal fans around the world.
When it comes to Rohit and Bumrah, they are still their most essential players. While Rohit has been the franchise’s seasoned campaigner, leading them to five titles, Bumrah has also created a reputation for himself. With 130 wickets so far, he has been a fixture in the MI line-up, and his retention isn’t surprising.
Pollard, on the other hand, has been a critical element in the MI line-up since the IPL 2010 edition and has been a vital cog in the franchise ever since. In 178 matches for the MI franchise, he has scored 3,268 runs and taken 65 wickets.
Meanwhile, Surya scored over 400 runs in each of the IPL seasons from 2018 to 2020, but he had an average season by his standards in IPL 14. Nonetheless, he enjoys the support of the MI team management. For the unversed, MI now have 48 crores (480 million) left in their purse ahead of the mega auction in 2022. The franchise will now like to create a new core for themselves in the upcoming seasons following the IPL 2022 auction.
The auction is reportedly scheduled to take place early in January, 2022.
