Bunty Aur Babli 2, starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji, was released yesterday. As a follow-up to the 2005 release, the film was expected to start on a stable footing, with box office receipts in the Rs. 4-5 crore range. Despite this, analyses show that the film underperformed. In reality, Bunty Aur Babli 2 managed to gross less than Rs. 3 crore on Day 1.
Surprisingly, despite being a sequel to a critically acclaimed film, Bunty Aur Babli 2 received negative reviews and word of mouth. In fact, when compared to Bunty Aur Babli, which debuted in 2005, there appears to be no impact of the franchise’s value on the film’s overall box office receipts.
Bunty Aur Babli managed to collect Rs. 2.68 crore on Day 1, whereas Bunty Aur Babli 2 managed to collect less than Rs. 3 crore. What’s most surprising is that Guru Nanak’s visit, which was supposed to boost the movie’s box office, had little impact in compared to the negative feedback the company received.
With only six days to the release of John Abraham’s motion picture Satyameva Jayate 2, the prospects for Bunty Aur Babli 2 are poor. In fact, the Akshay Kumar movie Sooryavanshi, which is already in its third weekend, is expected to do better than the fresh new release. According to industry projections, Sooryavanshi will not only surpass Bunty Aur Babli 2 during the weekend, but will also dominate the new release’s business during the week.
