Ahmedabad: In another major operation, the Gujarat ATS has seized 120 kg heroin worth Rs. 600 crore from Morbi and arrested three persons. The consignment originating from Pakistan was brought to Gujarat through the sea route.
The large quantity of heroin was seized from an under-construction house in Zinzuda village of Morbi following a raid on Sunday, ATS said.
The ATS arrested Jamnagar resident Mukhtar Hussain alias Jabbar, Morbi resident Shamsuddin Hussainmia Sailed, and Gulam Hussain of Devbhoomi Dwarka in connection to the seizure.
According to the ATS, the accused persons had got the drug from one Zahid Baloch of Pakistan and had taken its delivery mid-sea in the last week of October. The consignment was hidden near the coast in Devbhoomi Dwarka initially and was shifted to Morbi later on.
The conspiracy was hatched at the Somali canteen in the United Arab Emirates, and the drugs were meant to be supplied to Africa. The ATS claimed the drug operators had diverted the consignment to India out of greed and had planned to distribute the drugs in India. The three arrested persons are wanted in other crimes.
The seizure comes less than two months after the Directorate Revenue INtelligence seized nearly 3,000 kg heroin worth Rs. 20,000 crore from Mundra port. Last week police seized more than 17 kg of drugs worth Rs. 88 crore from Devbhoomi Dwarka.
