Atul Karwal, the Director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, has been named the next Director General of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for the appointment of Karwal as the NDRF chief, according to an official order issued on Tuesday.
Karwal, a 1988 batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, has been appointed as the Director General of NDRF for a two-year period by temporarily raising the post to the level of DG.
Satya Narayan Pradhan, the current Director General of NDRF, is said to be staying on as Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
