Night curfew extended in eight Gujarat cities till November 30, timing reduced by two hours

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has extended the night curfew in Ahmedabad, Surat, and six other cities till November 30, but reduced the curfew timing by two hours, and has also eased various restrictions in view of declining Covid-19 cases.

The state government had previously announced curfew in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, and Bhavnagar cities from 12:00 am to 6:00 am until November 10. In a notification on Thursday evening, the state home department said the night curfew has been extended in the eight cities until November 30.

“The curfew will remain in force in the eight cities from 1:00 am to 5:00 am,” the notification said.

Citing a review of the prevailing pandemic situation, the government has also eased other restrictions in the whole state until November 30. All shops, commercial establishments, stalls, shopping complexes, markets, etc., will be allowed to remain operational till midnight. Restaurants will also be allowed to stay open until midnight with a maximum of 75% of the seating capacity, while theatres will be allowed to operate at full capacity.

New Year get-togethers will be allowed in open spaces with a maximum attendance of 400 people and in closed spaces with 50% capacity, subject to a maximum of 400 persons. Adherence to Covid-19 guidelines will be mandatory, the notification said.

Covid-19 cases in the state have fallen to around 20 per day over the last few weeks.
