Ahmedabad: Four new aerobridges are being built at Ahmedabad airport so that passengers can go directly to their aircrafts. In the domestic and international terminals, there are eight aerobridges currently, and four more will be added next year.
The phase-wise modernisation of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is currently underway. Under this process, four new aerobridges will be constructed over the next several months for the convenience of passengers; an aerobridge costs around Rs 7 crore.
Airport sources said that currently there are four aerobridges at the domestic terminal and four at the international terminal, there will be six each at both the terminals now. When the aerobridges are connected to the terminal and the aircraft, passengers can directly board their flight without having to board the bus to reach the aircraft.
Currently, at Ahmedabad airport, aircraft like the 180-seater A320 and A320 Neo, 250-seater Boeing 777 and Dreamliner 787 land and take off. Along with this, 72-seater ATR, 90-seater Bombardier and 200-seater 737 Max aircraft also come to this airport. Currently, Ahmedabad airport sees more than 150 aircraft and 16,000 passengers daily.
As the passenger footfalls increase, there is a need to incorporate more facilities in keeping with international regulations. Sources said, a foreign company has been given the order for the construction of the aerobridges. These will be assembled at the airport and attached to the terminals.
