99.3% of Ahmedabad’s eligible population given at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad is set to cover its 100% eligible population with at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine shortly, data shows.

Out of approximately 46.24 lakh eligible population, 99.37% or 45.95 lakh people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to Co-WIN data. A little over 23.63 lakh or 51.2% of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated so far. The total number of doses administered in Gujarat’s largest city and financial capital is 69.58 lakh.

Amid improved pace of vaccination, daily Covid-19 cases in Ahmedabad city have fallen to around 3-4 per day over the past few weeks.

Separately, a day after surging to a nearly three-month high, Covid-19 cases fell by close to 60% in Gujarat on Friday.

Health department data shows Gujarat reported 34 Covid-19 cases on Thursday, the highest single-day rise since July 24, but declined to 14 on Friday, the same as October 4, and the joint lowest this month.

Four cases were reported in Vadodara city, and three each in Surat city and Valsad. Two cases were reported in Kutch and one in Junagadh.

As per Co-WIN data, the number of vaccines administered in the state on Friday was 63,105, the second-lowest this month after 49,520 doses on October 3.

A senior government official told The Live Ahmedabad that the decline in vaccination was because of the festival celebrations and not due to a shortage of vaccines.

Co-WIN data shows 18,000 people received the first dose on Friday, while 45,119 received the second dose. The number of doses administered in the state is 6.64 crore. Over 2.25 crore people have received both doses, and 4.39 crore have received at least one.
