Ahmedabad: The Indian Institute of Architecture (IIA) observes World Architecture Day consistently on the main Monday of October (today). This year, the Ahmedabad Center coordinated ‘Ahmedabad Collective’, a two-day presentation as a component of festivities where praised names, just as exceptional engineers of the city, are showing their best works and reasoning
Vatsal Joshi, Chairman, IIA Ahmedabad Centre, tells Mirror, “This is the first edition of Ahmedabad Collective. Twenty architects of the city are showcasing their work here. Top of the line veteran architects as well as budding, young and promising architects are here. The idea was to showcase the architectural progress of Ahmedabad to the patrons of Ahmedabad. Attending guests here are doctors, lawyers, CAs, people from Chamber of Commerce, etc.
“This event has been in the works for two months now.”
Joshi added that the idea was to “get our fraternity together and strengthen it”.
Architect Brijesh Bhata of Groundwork Architecture says, “I have been in the field since 1998. It is a fantastic profession because it allows us to think about people’s aspirations and turn them into buildings! The architectural scene in recent times has changed in terms of various young architects who are able to do good work and good work is being appreciated. Earlier, only a few architects used to practise, but it’s different now.”
One of the up-and-coming architects, Tarun Patel of MISA Architects thinks it’s an honour. “Apart from being an architect, I am also a visiting faculty at CEPT for the foundation programme, dealing with the Faculty of Planning.
“This platform, coming here to present my work, is an honour. Being here, amid such established architects, many of them are our mentors as well. We rigorously follow their work and learn from them.”
