Ahmedabad: Inside a month of monsson, streets in different districts across Ahmedabad city are not so great. Substantial rainfalls have made breaks on the streets. According to the report, Nava Vadaj observes one of the greatest number of street extends. Out of the 23 stretches altogether in the locale, many have effectively begun to break.
The Ahmedabad civic body spends an average of 11.75 per cent of its annual budget expenditure for roads and footpaths maintenance work and sweeping of roads.
The civic body’s annual budget in 2015-16 was Rs 618 crore which has now increased to Rs 962.59 crore in 2020-21. Every year the municipal corporation keeps increasing expenditure on resurfacing roads.
While commenting on the road conditions in the civic zones, a senior Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) zonal official said, “We are yet to check whether the roads constructed witnessed some digging for civic utilities. The contractor too has to be asked,” as reported by the Times of India.
Reacting to the monsoon situation, Mahender Jethmalani of Patheya budget centre said, “A large portion of roads in the city get washed away in the heavy monsoon rainfall and road quality gets deteriorated, causing the need to resurface,” as saying was quoted by the TOI.
Patheya budget centre official further noted that the municipal corporation should focus more on the quality and durability of the initial build so that the roads.
