Gujarat government says no to large Navratri events, reduces curfew timing by one hour

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has reduced the curfew timings in Ahmedabad and seven other cities by one hour and also announced other relaxations in view of upcoming Navratri and other festivals.

The curfew will begin in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, and Gandhinagar from 12:00 am to 6:00 am instead of 11:00 pm to 6:00 am until now, the state government announced. The revised curfew timings will be in force until October 10.

In view of the pandemic, the state government announced that commercial Navratri Garba events would not be allowed in party plots, clubs, and other open spaces for the second consecutive year this year.

However, residential societies would be allowed to host Navratri celebrations with a maximum attendance of 400 people. Celebrations of Durga Puja, Dusshera, Sharad Purnima, and other festivals in the coming weeks would also be subject to this upper limit.

Covid-19 vaccination is not mandatory for participation in celebrations, but the state government said it is advisable that people should have taken both doses of the vaccine.

The upper limit for attendance in marriages has also been revised from 150 until now to 400 persons.

For funerals and burials, the limit has been revised from 40 persons until now to 100 persons.

Hotels and restaurants were until now allowed to operate till 10:00 pm with 60% capacity. This has been revised to 75%. Similarly, public gardens and parks would be allowed to remain open till 10:00 pm instead of 9:00 pm.
