Ahmedabad: Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) is set to declare former Australian cricketer Dav Whatmore as the Director of Cricket and Head Coach of the senior men’s group for the forthcoming homegrown season 2021-22.
Whatmore becomes the most-expensive coach in the history of Indian First-Class cricket after signing a contract of INR 1 crore approximately.
“Yes, Dav Whatmore has signed up for Baroda Cricket Association as Director of Cricket and Head Coach. He will be the most expensive coach in the history of Indian First-Class Cricket. It is a great sign that Indian domestic structure is becoming financially strong and Dav signing for Baroda will hopefully bring success to the team,” a source privy to the development told News9.
Whatmore recently stepped down from the post of head coach of the Nepal Cricket Team after the conclusion of the World Cup qualifier (World Cup League-2 Tri-Series) on 19th September to be held in Oman.
The former Australia cricketer has coached several international teams – Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Singapore, Zimbabwe and Nepal. He has also coached Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2010-11 and Kerala state cricket team in 2017-18.
