Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has given a notice to 213 schools

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has given a week’s time to the schools in areas like Jamalpur, Shahpur, Panchkuva, Gomtipur, Naroda, Odhav, Maninagar, Prahladnagar, Sabarmati, Bodakdev, Aslali, Jashodanagar, Thaltej and Navrangpura of the city to get a fire safety certificate.
“Owners, trustees, managements of these 214 schools have not obtained fire safety certificates, NOC or have failed to get these renewed. They were issued a final closure notice with a time limit of seven days,” as stated in an official release of the AMC.
The action was taken by the Fire and Emergency Services Department of the AMC as part of a drive undertaken to check violations of building control regulations by commercial establishments including hospitals, nursing homes, restaurants and hotels.
All these establishments are required to get fire safety certificates and No Objection Certificates (NOC) under provisions of the Gujarat Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act 2013 that was amended in 2021. These certificates also require renewal from time to time.
Apart from schools, similar notices have also been issued this month to 42 hospitals and nursing homes and 13 restaurants and hotels.
