Prof Vimal Mishra, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN), has been selected for the prestigious 2021 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Devendra Lal Memorial Medal.
AGU, a nonprofit organisation that supports 1,30,000 enthusiasts to experts worldwide in Earth and space sciences, annually recognises a select number of individuals as part of its Honors and Recognition programme. The Devendra Lal Memorial Medal is awarded annually to an early- or mid-career scientist in recognition of outstanding research in Earth and/or space sciences by a scientist belonging to and working in a developing country.
Prof Vimal Mishra has been selected for the Medal for his outstanding research and contributions in Earth sciences. As an awardee, Professor Mishra will also become an AGU Fellow and a lifetime member of AGU. The Medal will be awarded to him during the AGU 2021 Fall Meeting to be held from December 13-17, 2021, in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Being a Medal recipient, he will also be invited to present a lecture at the prestigious event.
Professor Mishra’s research focuses on surface water hydrology, climate variability and climate change, global food and water security, water resources management, and large scale hydrologic modelling. Professor Mishra has contributed to developing real-time monitoring and prediction systems of droughts and floods in India.Sharing his thoughts on being selected for this prestigious Medal, Prof Vimal Mishra said, “I am deeply humbled and honoured to be named as a recipient of the Devendra Lal Memorial Medal.
