Covid-19 restrictions are still in place including night curfew, about 55 police families living in Kagdapith police lines are about to be rendered homeless.
Because the police lines are in for a renovation and they have been asked to vacate their homes without being provided any alternative accommodation.
Affected police families alleged that on resisting the order to vacate the houses, about 34 policemen living in the quarters have been transferred to “K” company, which is considered a punishment posting.
Left with no option, a group of policemen living there submitted their grievance in writing to the city Police Commissioner on Wednesday.
City police chief Sanjay Srivastava said that he is unaware about police families being asked to vacate the Kagdapith police lines or any grievance letter having been submitted in his office by the affected families. About the transfer of 34 policemen, Srivastava said the transfers are a routine procedure and not related to the issue of vacating the houses.
A head constable living in the police lines told on the condition of anonymity that they have been hailed as ‘Corona Warriors’ for their service during Covid-19 pandemic but now they face homelessness. “For about more than one-and-a-half years, we have been out on the roads to implement Covid-19 restrictions 24×7 despite risk to our lives. But now we are facing a situation that might leave us homeless. An order to vacate houses in the police line has already been issued without providing us an alternative arrangement,” the head constable said.
