The airport authority is planning to resurface the runway during the day hours from November to March so that the runways will remain closed from morning 9 to evening 6.Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given approval for runway.The Ahmedabad Airport management has announced a ‘NOTAM’ (Notice to Airmen) for the purpose.
Airport sources said the repair work will affect more than 30 flights at Ahmedabad daily. Many flights could be rescheduled or cancelled.
So far, only patchwork repair used to be done on the runway at places where the aircraft usually make the touchdowns and take-offs. The AAI resurfaced it four times in the past costing crores, but only in patches.
