Considering the frequent movement of VVIPs, celebrities, industrialists, diplomats etc Ahmedabad international airport soon will have special terminal for chartered flights .The new terminal will be set up by revamping the ceremonial hall within the domestic terminal. With the Adani Group taking over the airport, several new changes have been taking place at the airport which will catapult it in the league of Delhi and Mumbai airports.
It may be noted that Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar host several international conferences and events that necessitates movement of VVIPs, industrialists and celebrities via chartered flights. At present, there’s no separate facility for clearance of such passengers. Hence, they have to go through regular channels which wastes time and raises security issues.
Besides, due to Covid pandemic, many people prefer to travel in chartered flights with their families. Airport officials said that daily 4-5 chartered flights arrive in the city and there is a movement of nearly 100 such flights every month.
The new terminal would come up between the domestic terminal and Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Ltd building (GUJSAIL).
The ceremonial hall, which is currently used for meetings by VVIP, will be demolished and a new terminal will come up in its place
to handle chartered flight movement.
GUJSAIL sources said the ceremonial hall is closed for long and hardly of any use at present. There will be modern seating arrangement, security points, scanning, CISF points etc in the new facility. The process for taking approval from Central agencies has been initiated, sources said.
