3 More Civil Doctors Resign from the largest hospital of Gujarat,After Med Superintendent

Ahmedabad: In the largest hospital of Gujarat after the resignation of Dr J V Modi, the Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, was approved, three more resignations have been accepted. These were tendered by the dean of BJ Medical College, a professor of the Medicine department and an assistant professor of the Anatomy department. In the past two days, the largest hospital and medical college in Gujarat have both been rendered without their heads amid murmurs that frequent run-ins with the health department led to the senior doctors stepping down.
Sources at the Directorate of Medical Education in Gandhinagar have hinted at more resignations in the near future. The news comes in as the state gears up for the third wave of Covid after facing a disastrous onslaught of the virus in April.
After accepting the resignation of Dr JV Modi, the state government accepted the resignations of Dean Dr Pranay Shah, Dr BK Amin of the Medicine department and Dr Dimple Ganatra of the Anatomy department. Dr Shah, the outgoing dean, confirmed the same. Sources informed Mirror that the spate of protests held by resident doctors, nurses, Class IV staff and finally by medical teachers had soured the relations between senior doctors and officials of the health department. A senior doctor told Mirror, “During Covid, many officials and politicians conducted purchases worth crores, deviating from the rule book. A former female official of the health department had even begun an investigation into the matter and it was likely that all the blame would have been passed on to the senior doctors. That could be another reason for the resignations.”
