With the pace of Covid-19 vaccination picking up in recent days, the number of fully vaccinated people in Gujarat touched 1 crore, the state’s deputy chief minister Nitin Patel said on Wednesday.
According to health department data, the number of people who have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine was 99,90,783 as of Tuesday evening. The number crossed the 1-crore landmark on Wednesday, Patel said.
The number of partially vaccinated, i.e., people who have received a single dose of the vaccine, is 3.14 crore on Wednesday, as per Co-Win data.
“The number of people in Gujarat who have received both doses of Covid-19 vaccine crossed 1 crore today. I extend my gratitude towards the healthcare personnel for this achievement and their efforts in the fight against the Coronavirus. I also extend my greetings to the 1 crore citizens who have taken both doses of the vaccine,” Nitin Patel, who also heads the health ministry, said.
In Ahmedabad city, 10.64 lakh people have received both doses of the vaccine so far, while 33,16 lakh have received one dose, Co-Win data showed. In Ahmedabad district, the number of fully vaccinated people is 2.16 lakh, and that of partially vaccinated is 9.30 lakh.
“Vaccination is the only available tool to tackle Covid-19, and we want to vaccinate as many people as possible,” said Manoj Aggarwal, the state’s health secretary.
Gujarat crossed the 4-crore vaccination mark on August 15, becoming only the third state after Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra to touch the milestone.
A health department official said around two-thirds of the eligible population is at least partially vaccinated against Covid-19.
