Experts say the cutoff may fall to around 350 marks this year, as the tougher exam led to 7,000 fewer qualifiers in the state and a top score of only 686 marks.
Medical and dental aspirants in Gujarat may find an unexpected advantage this year, as experts predict the NEET admission cutoff could drop to around 350 marks due to the difficulty of this year’s exam.
Two major factors are behind the expected drop. First, the number of qualifying students has decreased significantly — down by 7,000 in Gujarat and 21,000 across India compared to last year. Second, the top score has fallen notably. While last year’s highest admission at BJ Medical College saw a perfect 720, this year’s top national score is just 686.
According to a media report, experts expect the merit list to shift lower by 50 to 70 marks, giving mid-range scorers a better shot at securing seats that were previously out of reach.
Admission Process Underway
Officials have confirmed that PIN distribution for four courses is complete, with 24,743 students buying PINs for 16,246 seats. Document verification is ongoing and will continue until July 21. The first round of admissions is set to begin on July 30.
Seat Availability a Concern
However, the good news comes with a catch. A recent inspection by the National Medical Commission led to over 6,000 medical seats being cancelled across the country. In Gujarat, Kalol Medical College will not offer its 150 seats this year. More seat cuts could be announced as the admission process progresses.
