An administrative rule in first-year admissions at Gujarat University and its affiliated colleges has left reserved category students in a difficult spot.
Students allotted seats through the GCAS system are being asked to confirm their admission within a day. However, doing so may make them ineligible for scholarships—forcing them to choose between securing a seat or retaining financial aid
Former national coordinator of NSUI Bhavik Solanki on Tuesday wrote a letter to GU VC. “After students get the admission letter, it takes at-least four to five days to get the free-ship cards to avail benefit of the scholarship. These students come from economically weak sections. If colleges force them to confirm admission within a day, they have to let go of the scholarship benefit and may have to drop out owing to money issues,” Solanki said. Without mentioning names, he demanded action against such colleges.
