Following strong objections from the Gujarat Congress and parents’ associations over school teachers offering private tuitions, 16 teachers have been removed from self-financed schools under the jurisdiction of the District Education Offices (DEO) in both City and Rural areas.Of the 16, five teachers were from schools under DEO City and 11 from those under DEO Rural. In response, the DEO City and Rural offices issued a circular directing all schools to ensure their teachers are not engaged in any form of private coaching. The circular also instructed school principals to display a signed declaration on the school notice board affirming that no teachers are involved in private tuitions.DEO City officer Rohit Chaudhari confirmed that after receiving a list of teachers engaged in private tutoring, he directed the removal of five teachers from his jurisdiction. DEO Rural officer Krupa Jha said 11 teachers under her jurisdiction were similarly removed.“The teachers were from self-financed schools. Once we got the list, we instructed the management to take action to set an example,” Jha said.Meanwhile, school managements have raised concerns over what they call “partial restrictions” targeting only school teachers. Referring to the issue of dummy schools, they have called for stricter regulation and closure of coaching centres that also run schools.
