In a late-night accident on Wednesday near Baliyakaka Crossroads in Ahmedabad’s Rakhial area, a BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) bus lost control and rammed into an auto-rickshaw after climbing over the central divider. The crash occurred around 11 pm, leaving five people injured, including the auto driver.
According to a media report, the BRTS bus was allegedly speeding when the driver lost control near the intersection. The bus veered onto the divider, broke through the protective railing, and collided head-on with an oncoming auto-rickshaw.
The impact severely damaged the rickshaw, injuring all five passengers onboard. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos, with shattered vehicle parts scattered across the road and locals rushing in to help the victims.
Emergency response teams, including the 108 ambulance service, arrived quickly and transported the injured to a nearby hospital. All are reported to be in stable condition.
The loud crash caused panic in the neighborhood, drawing residents out of their homes and balconies. Many expressed concern over rash driving by public transport, particularly along the BRTS corridor in this area.
The H Division of Traffic Police has launched an investigation. The bus driver has been detained for questioning, and authorities are examining CCTV footage and recording witness statements to determine whether driver negligence or mechanical failure led to the accident.
Further updates are awaited as the inquiry progresses.
