In a high-security operation on Wednesday, authorities—escorted by a police convoy—carried out a demolition drive targeting religious structures encroaching on government land in Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej area. The action, conducted in coordination with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), resulted in the demolition of one temple and four dargahs.
According to a media report, the drive was part of a broader initiative to clear illegal constructions obstructing expansion work on key stretches of the Sarkhej highway.
A heavy police force was deployed to maintain law and order and ensure the operation proceeded without incident. The demolition began early in the morning and continued for several hours, closely supervised by civic and highway department officials.
While the move faced some local resistance, authorities clarified that advance notice had been issued and the action was carried out in accordance with legal procedures.
