The principal of a school and the rector of its hostel in Gujarat were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sexually harassing at least five minor boys studying in Classes 9 and 10.
According to media reports, the abuse is believed to have taken place over the past year and came to light during a recent parent-teacher meeting, when concerned parents informed the school trustees.
A police sub-inspector said, “After the incident was reported, the trustees approached the police and filed a complaint. Based on this, an FIR was registered under the POCSO Act, and both the principal and rector were arrested.”
The FIR, filed on July 7, has been marked as “sensitive.” On Tuesday morning, police officials, along with members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), visited the hostel to speak with the victims and other residents to determine if more students had been affected.
Police also confirmed that the hostel is equipped with CCTV cameras and that footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
