India’s legendary cricketer MS Dhoni turned 44 on Monday and marked the occasion with a simple cake-cutting celebration at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi. A video from the intimate gathering, where Dhoni is seen in a sleeveless tee, smiling and sharing cake with friends, has taken social media by storm. Before cutting the cake, Dhoni is heard politely asking for permission, a gesture that melted the hearts of fans.
While the viral video has been widely circulated, its authenticity couldn’t be independently confirmed.
Meanwhile, the celebrations weren’t limited to Ranchi. In Vijayawada, fans took things to the next level by unveiling a massive cutout of Dhoni, setting off a festive atmosphere. A video clip from July 6 shows a large crowd gathered, many waving Chennai Super Kings posters, with Dhoni depicted in traditional South Indian attire—highlighting his deep bond with CSK fans since 2008.
On the field, Dhoni’s legacy remains unmatched. Across all formats, he has scored 17,266 runs and has 829 dismissals in 538 matches for India. In ODIs alone, he accumulated 10,773 runs at an extraordinary average of 50.57, including 10 centuries and 73 fifties, with a best of 183*—most of it while batting lower down the order. He stands sixth among India’s highest ODI run-scorers, with only legends like Sachin Tendulkar ahead.
In Tests, Dhoni represented India in 90 matches, scoring 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09, with six centuries and 33 half-centuries. His top score remains 224. As captain, he led India in 60 Tests, recording 27 wins—the most by any Indian captain at the time—with a win percentage of 45%. Notably, he remains the only Indian skipper to whitewash Australia in a Border-Gavaskar Trophy series—achieving the feat in both 2010-11 and 2012-13.
From Ranchi to Chennai and beyond, Dhoni continues to be a symbol of humility, leadership, and unmatched cricketing legacy.
