Gujarat is moving towards complete digitalisation of all 224 Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) to enhance transparency and efficiency in agricultural trade.
According to a media report, as part of the ‘International Year of Cooperatives’ celebrations, the state government organised zone-wise review and training programmes aimed at modernising APMCs through the use of technology. Leaders from the cooperative sector and secretaries from 144 marketing committees actively participated in the initiative.
The training sessions were held at key APMCs in Ahmedabad, Unjha, Rajkot, and Surat, covering a range of topics. These included the implementation of the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), the significance of AGMARK data entry for ensuring price transparency, and the promotion of digital transactions in agricultural markets.
Participants also discussed the development of the e-APMC portal, including features like gate entry, e-Trade, and e-Payment systems. Training for farmers and market stakeholders was also a key focus.
The programmes were conducted across six districts in the North Zone, ten in the Central Zone, five in the South Zone, and twelve in the Saurashtra-Kutch Zone.
