The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for July 2 and 3 across several districts in north and south Gujarat, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Rainfall Forecast:
- July 2: Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Dahod, Mahisagar, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
- July 3: Banaskantha and Sabarkantha may receive continued heavy rainfall.
Rainfall Activity:
On Wednesday, heavy rain lashed parts of south Gujarat, including Tapi, Valsad, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, as well as Banaskantha and Sabarkantha in the north. Kaprada taluka in Valsad recorded the highest rainfall at 4 inches, followed by Dolwan in Tapi with 2.5 inches and Subir in Dang with 2 inches.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), rainfall was recorded in 89 talukas across 32 districts in the past 24 hours.
Preparedness and Alerts:
A high-level meeting of the Weather Watch Group was held at SEOC to assess the monsoon situation. All departments have been directed to remain on high alert and coordinate closely.
- 32 teams from NDRF and SDRF have been deployed across the state.
- 2 additional teams are on standby.
- 21 reservoirs are on high alert due to rising water levels; 12 are on alert level and 19 under warning status.
Citizens are advised to follow local advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
So far, Gujarat has received 288.70 mm of rainfall—32.73% of the annual average—the highest for this period since 2015. The southwest monsoon entered Gujarat on June 16 and covered the entire state by June 18.
