A mid-air incident aboard a SpiceJet flight from Goa to Pune caused alarm among passengers on Tuesday, after a cosmetic interior window frame dislodged during the journey. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and cabin pressurisation remained stable throughout the flight.
The incident occurred on flight SG-1080, operated by a Bombardier Q400 aircraft. According to a statement issued by the airline, a non-structural trim component of the window—used primarily for shading—became loose mid-flight and was found dislodged. SpiceJet emphasised that the component was purely cosmetic and did not compromise the aircraft’s safety or structural integrity.
#SpiceJet from Goa to Pune today. The whole interior window assembly just fell off mid flight. And this flight is now supposed to take off and head to Jaipur. Wonder if it’s air worthy @ShivAroor @VishnuNDTV @DGCAIndia pic.twitter.com/x5YV3Qj2vu

Passengers, however, described the experience as distressing. One passenger recalled that the frame popped out approximately 30 minutes after takeoff, causing panic, particularly for a woman seated near the affected window with her infant. “She was clearly scared. Even though the protective outer layer of the window was intact, it was still alarming,” the passenger said.
Flight attendants responded promptly, relocating the woman and her child to another seat and attempting to reattach the loose frame. While the crew managed to temporarily fix it, passengers remained uneasy for the remainder of the journey.
SpiceJet clarified that the Q400 aircraft is equipped with multiple window layers, including a pressure-resistant outer pane that ensures passenger safety is never at risk—even if an internal cosmetic panel becomes dislodged.
An internal inspection of the aircraft is expected to follow the incident to determine the cause of the frame’s detachment.
