Water Levels Cross Warning Mark at 11 River Stations Across India, No Extreme Flood Threat Yet: CWC

The Central Water Commission (CWC) on Wednesday reported that water levels at 11 river monitoring stations across India have breached the warning level. However, none of these locations have reached the danger mark or entered the “severe” or “extreme” flood situation category, according to the latest daily flood bulletin issued by the Central Flood Control Room.

The bulletin noted that 12 additional sites across Assam, Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh are witnessing “above-normal” flood situations—where water levels have crossed the warning threshold but remain below critical levels.

In Assam, the Kushiyara River at Karimganj and the Brahmaputra at Neamatighat in Jorhat are among the rivers nearing concerning levels. Bihar is also being closely monitored, with high water levels reported in the Kosi at Baltara, Bagmati at Benibad, and Gandak at Dumariaghat.

Four key sites in Uttar Pradesh, including the Ganga at Fatehgarh and Kachhla Bridge, Ghagra at Elginbridge, and Gandak at Khadda, have all reached their respective warning marks. The Ghagra touched 95 metres at Elginbridge, prompting heightened surveillance.

In Odisha, the Subarnarekha River has risen above normal levels at Mathani Road Bridge and Rajghat in Baleshwar district. Tamil Nadu reported similar conditions at Musiri on the Cauvery River.

The CWC also issued inflow forecasts for 23 reservoir and barrage sites across 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

Major reservoirs in Karnataka—such as Almatti, Narayanapur, and Tungabhadra—are experiencing steady or rising inflows. Odisha’s Rengali Reservoir and West Bengal’s Durgapur Barrage have also recorded significant water inflows, prompting advisories for potential downstream impact.

Despite active monsoon conditions and elevated water levels in several regions, the CWC has confirmed that none of the monitored river stations have exceeded their previous highest flood marks as of now.
