In a chilling incident that has rocked Ahmedabad’s Satellite locality, a retired doctor was found brutally murdered in his apartment at Vaibhav Tower, with early investigations pointing to his estranged son as the prime suspect.
According to a media report, the victim, Dr. Nareshkumar Tilwani, was discovered lying in a pool of blood on Saturday afternoon with a fatal stab wound to the neck. His wife, Sheela Tilwani, who resides separately with their daughter Ravina in Sheetal Park, filed a police complaint citing long-standing tensions between Dr. Tilwani and their 29-year-old son, Varun Tilwani.
Son Lived in Isolation, Known for Violent Behavior
According to Sheela’s statement at the Satellite police station, Varun had been living alone in the Vaibhav Tower flat for the past seven years. “He cut off all communication with the family, remained confined to his room, and frequently showed violent tendencies. He damaged furniture and depended solely on food delivery apps,” she told police.
Despite the fractured relationship, Dr. Tilwani regularly visited Varun to check on him. On the evening of June 27, Dr. Tilwani arrived at the apartment but was unable to enter. He called a locksmith to open the locked door and later spoke to his wife around 7:30 pm. Sheela and their daughter visited that night and stayed until around 10 pm.
The following day, June 28, when Dr. Tilwani did not show up for lunch and failed to respond to calls, Sheela rushed to the flat around 1:30 pm. She found the main door ajar, bloodstains at the entrance, and her husband lying motionless beside the bed, clearly the victim of a violent attack.
Bloodstains in Son’s Room, Varun Missing
Adding to the alarm, Varun’s room was found unlocked and empty. Bloodstains were discovered inside, but Varun was nowhere to be found. Emergency services were called, and Dr. Tilwani was declared dead at the scene.
Police have registered a case of murder under IPC Section 302. “The injuries indicate the use of a sharp weapon. Varun is currently absconding, and multiple teams are searching for him,” said an officer from Satellite police station.
A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected critical evidence including blood samples, fingerprints, and the broken door lock. CCTV footage from the building is also being reviewed to track Varun’s movements.
Years of Family Strife
The Tilwani family had reportedly endured years of domestic discord. Varun, once an engineering student, dropped out and withdrew completely from social and professional life. Despite his troubling behavior, Dr. Tilwani continued to visit him, hoping to maintain some connection.
Police are also investigating whether Varun may be suffering from a mental health disorder, which could have contributed to the tragedy.
Dr. Tilwani’s body has been sent for post-mortem. As of Monday afternoon, Varun Tilwani remains untraceable, and a police manhunt is ongoing.
