As many as 105 students from J B Desai School in Gujarat’s Dehgam reported symptoms of blurred vision, eye redness, and watery eyes on Monday, triggering concern among parents and authorities. The incident prompted an immediate response, and a full-scale investigation is now underway in Gandhinagar.
According to a media report, school authorities contacted the local public health centre, and medical staff promptly examined the affected students. They were later shifted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, where treatment began without delay.
Twelve students were found to have more serious eye-related conditions. However, officials said their health is steadily improving, and following a medical review, they may soon be allowed to return home.
Blood samples from several students were collected for testing, and the primary health centre in Dehgam has been placed on alert with a standby medical team ready to respond to further cases.
Preliminary investigations suggest the possibility of food or water contamination. Authorities have collected food samples from the school lunch served on Monday, as well as water samples from the premises, for laboratory analysis.
All affected students remain under observation as the probe continues.
