A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Gujarat High Court demanding the implementation of the National Sports Development Code, 2011 in the election process and functioning of the Gujarat State Table Tennis Association.
In response, the High Court has issued notices to the State Table Tennis Association, the Table Tennis Federation of India, and the Central Government, and scheduled the matter for hearing next month.
The PIL, filed by former table tennis player Yatharth Pandya, also calls for the dissolution of the current association and the conduct of fresh elections under the supervision of a retired High Court judge. Pandya argued that the Sports Code, designed to ensure transparent governance, fair elections, and promotion of sports, is not being followed by the state association.
