In a significant crackdown on unqualified medical practitioners, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural Police arrested a man impersonating an allopathic doctor without a valid medical degree from the Dholeshwarnagar area near the Changodar Post Office.
The accused, Biswajit Ghosh, son of Gopalchandra Dhora and a native of Mandalhar village in West Bengal’s Nadia district, had been illegally operating a clinic from Shakti Avenue in Moraiya village, near Changodar-Tajpur Road. Ghosh was found prescribing and administering modern medicine without any recognised qualifications or registration with the Gujarat Medical Council. He has been booked under provisions of the Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act, 1963.
Acting on a tip-off, the SOG team raided his premises and seized a stockpile of allopathic medicines, syringes, injections, and other medical supplies worth ₹27,403. A case has been registered at Changodar police station, and Ghosh has been taken into custody.
Authorities revealed that Ghosh has a prior record, having been booked under the same Act in 2023 for similar offences. Investigators believe he may have been running the illegal practice for a long time, potentially putting numerous patients at risk. Further investigation is underway.
