The Gujarat Police is set to introduce an all-female drone surveillance unit as part of its SHE Team initiative, aiming to curb crimes against women and boost night-time safety.
Eyes in the Sky
The specially trained women-led drone team will patrol dark spots, isolated streets, and high-risk areas, particularly at night. The drones will help detect suspicious activities and reckless driving, with real-time alerts sent to police control rooms for immediate action.
High-Tech Support
The initiative will be powered by “Application 2.0”, a smart platform that enables real-time SOS alerts and secure communication among officers. The drones, equipped with high-resolution cameras and AI-based threat detection, will also operate in tribal and coastal areas.
Mobile Command & Outreach
SHE Teams will operate mobile command units equipped with drones, emergency kits, and live-reporting tools. The proposal also suggests integrating SHE Team operations into school programs to inspire young girls and spread awareness.
Structured Command & Fast Response
- Statewide Oversight: A nodal SP-rank officer will oversee SHE Teams across Gujarat.
- Zonal Management: Each zone—metro, rural, and coastal—will have command hubs led by DSPs.
- Field Teams: Comprising sub-inspectors, women constables, social workers, and child rights reps.
Response Tiers
- Tier 1 (0–5 mins): Harassment, stalking, public threats
- Tier 2 (5–20 mins): Domestic violence, missing persons
- Tier 3 (20–60 mins): Legal aid, cybercrimes, counselling
Performance & Public Review
Monthly dashboards will track team performance, and a feedback system will allow public input on SHE Team operations.
This pioneering move marks a significant step towards women-led safety solutions and smarter policing across Gujarat.
