Two medical students from Gotri GMERS College drowned in the Narmada canal near Ankodiya in Vadodara district on Wednesday, police said.
The victims, identified as Prem Madam from Jamnagar and Aditya Ramakrishna from Surat, had gone for a walk along the canal on Wednesday afternoon when the incident occurred.
According to a media report, Vadodara Taluka Police station said that the two friends allegedly “slipped and fell into the canal”, and were feared drowned. The Vadodara taluka police station has registered a case of accidental death even as the fire department retrieved the bodies of both the students.
“The two students had ventured near the canal on Wednesday afternoon. It is not clear if they were trying to enter the canal to take a dip but they slipped while walking in the periphery. Both bodies were recovered and sent to Gotri medical college in Vadodara,” an officer of the Vadodara taluka police station said.
