Gujarat University (GU) has issued a circular to its affiliated colleges, urging them to increase student admissions under the ongoing Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) round in order to improve the admission conversion rate.
This move follows a directive from the state education department and concerns raised by student unions over the slow and flawed GCAS process, which they claim is pushing students towards private universities.
According to a media report, out of 1,89,098 students who verified their documents through GCAS, only 1,71,142 have confirmed admissions in 15 public universities across the state. In response, the education department has introduced temporary changes to attract more students, GU officials said.
Colleges have also been instructed to review vacant reserved category seats. If seats remain unfilled, they can be converted to general or other applicable categories to maximise admissions.
