The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Surat, Valsad, Jamnagar, and Junagadh districts, warning of continued heavy rainfall.
According to a media report, a cloudburst-like situation occurred in Surat between 8 am and 10 am, dumping nearly 6 inches of rain, which led to severe waterlogging in multiple low-lying areas and disrupted daily commuting.
In response to the situation, the Surat District Collector advised schools to send morning-shift students home early and declared leave for afternoon-shift students, prioritising their safety.
Rainfall Update from Across Gujarat
In the past 24 hours, 165 talukas in 33 districts of Gujarat recorded rainfall. As per the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar:
- Jodia taluka (Jamnagar) received the highest rainfall at over 7 inches.
- Mendarda taluka (Junagadh) recorded around 6 inches.
- More than 5 inches of rain was reported in Palsana (Surat), Kaprada (Valsad), Amirgadh (Banaskantha), Vanthali, and Keshod (Junagadh).
- Over 4 inches fell in Kalavad (Jamnagar), Umarpada (Surat), Junagadh taluka and city, and Manavadar.
- More than 3 inches was recorded in Kamrej and Surat city (Surat), Vapi and Pardi (Valsad), Kutiyana (Porbandar), Paddhari, Jetpur, Dhoraji (Rajkot), Khergam (Navsari), Bhesan (Junagadh), and Gandhidham (Kutch).
Additionally:
- 10 talukas received over 2 inches
- 26 talukas saw more than 1 inch
- 106 talukas recorded less than 1 inch of rainfall
According to SEOC data, the state’s total seasonal rainfall has now reached approximately 18.61% of the average.
