A patient in dire need of treatment in Ahmedabad’s Nikol area reportedly died after an ambulance couldn’t reach his home because of waterlogging caused by heavy rain.
The family has alleged that Jitubhai’s life could have been saved if it was not for the negligence of Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Ahmedabad witnessed heavy rains on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, leading to waterlogging in many parts of the city.
According to a media report, around 2.5 feet of water had accumulated in the Madhumalti Awas Yojana in Nikol, where the deceased lived, ruling out any possibility for the ambulance or any emergency vehicle to reach the house.
Jitubhai, who was injured after slipping and falling, was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital on a pedal rickshaw due to the ambulance’s failure to reach his home. Despite efforts by doctors, he passed away during treatment. His body was later sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
Earlier this month, another incident in Ahmedabad claimed a life when a young man was electrocuted after touching an electric pole in Doodhwali Pol, Gheekanta.
