A part of a run-down three-storey residential building in Dharmi Society, near Modini Chali and Mahakali Mandir in the Dudheshwar area of Shahibaug, collapsed on Tuesday. The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) responded quickly and carried out a prompt rescue operation.
The G+3 building had a tin shed on the top floor and showed visible signs of damage, including cracks and structural weakness. The collapse affected the terrace and stairway, causing damage to the second-floor lobby. Fortunately, no one was injured, as the fire brigade acted swiftly to evacuate the residents.
Shahpur fire station officials said, eight people were rescued first, and five more were safely evacuated soon after, in a well-coordinated effort.

The quick response by the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services ensured that all residents were rescued safely, without any injuries. Officials noted that the building had been structurally weak for some time, and its unsafe condition had already been reported to the local authorities.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is now expected to carry out a structural inspection and may demolish the remaining parts of the building to avoid further danger.
With the monsoon season nearing, authorities have urged residents living in old or damaged buildings to report any visible signs of structural issues to their local ward offices.
