Along with the people who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, the bodies of over 100 animals and birds were also found. These included dogs, peacocks, pigeons, kites, and bats. However, a local NGO was able to rescue five dogs and seven birds from the crash site.
The plane had crashed in a forested area where many animals and birds lived. Ahmedabad-based NGO Darshna Animal Welfare claimed that more than 100 animals and birds lost their lives because of the crash.
Akash Chavda, the founder of the NGO said, that his team lives just 500 metres from the crash site. As soon as they heard about the accident, they rushed to the spot knowing that the area had a lot of wildlife. He said, “The fire made it very difficult to enter the area, and we couldn’t stay there for long.”
“At the site, we found five injured dogs and seven pigeons, which we rescued and are now treating. Sadly, more than 100 animals and birds died. We found the burned remains of at least nine dogs, along with peacocks, pigeons, kites, and other birds,” Chavda added.
