An Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi made an emergency landing on Friday following a bomb threat, according to Phuket airport officials, as reported by Reuters.
According to a media report, flight AI 379 has safely landed, and emergency procedures are currently underway at the airport, an official informed Reuters.
Passengers aboard Air India flight AI 379 were safely escorted off the plane as part of emergency protocols, an Airports of Thailand official confirmed.
Authorities later stated that no explosives were found during the initial inspection of the aircraft.
Thai airport officials are currently questioning the passenger who discovered the bomb threat note onboard.
According to a statement, the flight was carrying 156 passengers when the threat was received mid-air.
The aircraft had departed Phuket Airport at 9:30 AM local time on Friday en route to Delhi but circled over the Andaman Sea before returning to Phuket, as per data from flight tracker Flightradar24.
The bomb threat incident comes just a day after a tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday, which claimed the lives of over 240 people shortly after takeoff.
The Airports of Thailand (AOT) has not disclosed specific details regarding the bomb threat on flight AI 379, and Air India has yet to issue an official response.
Notably, Indian airlines and airports have faced a surge in bomb threat hoaxes, with nearly 1,000 such false alarms reported in the first 10 months of last year—almost 10 times the number recorded in 2023.
