Thieves steal ₹25 lakh from parked van in Ahmedabad

In a shocking daytime theft, unknown thieves broke into a parked van and stole ₹25 lakh near Panchvati Circle in Ahmedabad on Monday afternoon. The incident happened around 3:37 pm when the victim briefly left his van to submit some documents at Axis Bank.

Business News

According to the police complaint filed at Navrangpura police station, 31-year-old Amit Haridasbhai Dosa, a resident of South Bopal and partner in Maruti Laboratory, had collected the cash from Ishwar Soma Angadiya firm located across from Punjabi Hall in Navrangpura. The money was part of a business deal.

Dosa parked his company’s white van near Harubhai Jeweller’s shop at Panchvati Circle. He kept the bag filled with ₹25 lakh in ₹500, ₹200, and ₹100 notes on the front passenger seat, locked the van, and went to Axis Bank on foot to submit documents.

He was inside the bank for less than 10 minutes. When he returned, a parking attendant approached him to discuss another matter. At the same time, Dosa noticed two men on a motorbike had broken the van’s window and stolen the cash.

One thief was wearing a helmet, while the other had his face covered with a handkerchief. Even though a few people were nearby, the thieves quickly escaped.

Dosa immediately informed his business partner, Janakbhai Dhamelia, and called the police. Officers from Navrangpura police station arrived soon after.

The case has been registered, and police have started an investigation. They suspect the thieves may have followed Dosa from the Angadiya firm to the spot. CCTV footage from nearby roads and shops is being checked to find the suspects and their motorcycle.

Police are also looking into the possibility that someone with inside information may have tipped off the thieves.

A senior police official said, “We are treating this as a serious and targeted offence. The complainant had followed routine procedures, but the placement of such a large amount of cash in an unattended vehicle, even briefly, is highly risky. The investigation is progressing, and we are hopeful of identifying the culprits soon.”
