Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, was reportedly so determined to see her plan through that she was ready to act herself if her hired aides failed.

According to police sources quoted by India Today TV, Sonam allegedly told her suspected lover and co-conspirator Raj Kushwaha, “If Vishal, Anand, and Akash are not able to kill Raja, I will push him down the mountain while taking a photo.”

Sonam is said to have devised the murder plan soon after reaching her maternal home in Indore on May 15, just four days after her wedding. From there, she booked tickets to Guwahati and discussed the details of the plot with Raj over phone calls.

To delay physical intimacy and gain time, Sonam allegedly persuaded Raja to first visit the Kamakhya temple, presenting it as a mark of respect before traveling to Meghalaya.

On May 23, Raja and Sonam checked out of a homestay in Nongriat village, Meghalaya. Ten days later, Raja’s body was discovered in a deep gorge about 20 km away. According to police, he was murdered by three men—Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), Akash Rajput (19), and Anand Kurmi—friends of Raj Kushwaha who were allegedly hired by Sonam to carry out the killing.

After the murder, Sonam disappeared but resurfaced on June 8, surrendering at Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district. Her surrender came after the three accused were arrested in overnight raids in UP, Indore, and Sagar. Raj Kushwaha (21), identified as the alleged co-conspirator, was arrested later.

Kushwaha and three other accused are currently in the transit custody of Meghalaya Police.

The autopsy report of Raja Raghuvanshi confirmed that he was struck twice on the head with a sharp object. “The autopsy report indicated there were two sharp cuts on the head of the deceased — one from behind and one from the front,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said.
