An investigation by the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has revealed that a group of students from a premier institute in Bengaluru are allegedly behind the bomb threat email sent to Geneva Liberal School in Shela earlier this month.
Senior officials of the Crime Branch confirmed that during technical surveillance, investigators traced the origin of the threatening email to the southern part of the country. “Based on the IP trails and digital forensics, we found that the email was sent from a location in Bengaluru. Further inquiries pointed towards the involvement of five to six students from a reputed educational institution,” said an officer associated with the probe.
Authorities further revealed that these students are suspected to be behind at least 20 similar emails sent across the country during sensitive situations. According to officials, the emails were intended to cause panic and disruption.
According to the senior official, Preliminary findings suggest that the motive behind the emails was to harass a particular individual whose name and personal details were misused to create the email ID used for sending the threats. “The suspects appear to have deliberately targeted a specific person, possibly due to personal animosity, and used his name to lend credibility to the emails,”.
The incident in question took place on June 3, when Geneva Liberal School in Ahmedabad received a chilling email at 10.58 am, claiming that a bomb had been planted on its premises. The subject line read: “Bomb planted in the school to provide justice for a rape victim.” The email went on to criticise police inaction in a rape case allegedly involving a person who had assaulted a woman at a Lemon Tree Hotel in Hyderabad in 2023.
The email included the alleged perpetrator’s contact information, along with details about his parents and accused them of torturing their daughter-in-law over a dowry demand of ₹1 crore, citing pending home and car loans. “The police is sleeping and they cannot do anything… Only if children die, police will become active,” the email stated, ending with a sinister line: “Save them if you can.”
Following the threat, the school administration immediately alerted the police. Teams from the police force, the bomb detection and disposal squad, and the fire brigade were deployed at the school, and the premises were thoroughly searched. No explosives were found.
Police officials are continuing their investigation and are likely to take further action against the students involved. The case is being closely monitored, given the gravity of the threats and the potential risk to public safety.
