Renowned director Partho Ghosh passed away on Monday morning in Mumbai due to heart-related complications. He was 75. Known for helming a range of popular films such as 100 Days, Agni Sakshi, and Dalaal, Ghosh lived in the Madh Island area of Mumbai and is survived by his wife, Gouri Ghosh.
Ghosh began his career as an assistant director on smaller films before rising to prominence with the 1991 thriller 100 Days, starring Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit. The film, a Hindi remake of the Tamil movie Nooravathu Naal, earned him critical and commercial acclaim. He followed it up with Geet (1992), featuring Divya Bharti, and Dalaal (1993), starring Mithun Chakraborty—both of which further cemented his reputation in the industry.
One of the highlights of his career was Agni Sakshi (1996), a psychological thriller starring Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, and Manisha Koirala. His last film, Mausam Ikrar Ke Do Pal Pyaar Ke, released in 2018.
Mourning his death, actress Rituparna Sengupta said, “We have lost an exceptional talent, a visionary director, and a kind soul. Partho da, you will always be remembered for the magic you created on screen. Rest in peace.”
