Sixteen days after mysteriously disappearing during her honeymoon, Sonam Raghuvanshi was found alive at a roadside eatery in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday, June 9. Her first photo since the disappearance has surfaced online. She is now in police custody and is at the center of a chilling murder investigation.
Sonam was reportedly found confused and disturbed, unable to speak or explain where she had been during her disappearance. Authorities are focusing on her medical and psychological evaluation before starting formal questioning.
Police Allege Murder
Meghalaya Police have accused Sonam of planning the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was found recently in a remote area. The couple from Indore had gone missing during their trip to the Northeast.
Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang confirmed that four people, including Sonam, have been arrested in connection with Raja’s murder. The DGP revealed that Sonam allegedly planned her husband’s killing and hired contract killers ahead of time to carry out the crime during their honeymoon. The suspects were arrested following a detailed investigation by Meghalaya Police.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma also wrote, “Within 7 days a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #meghalayapolice in the Raja murder case … 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch 1 more assailant .. well done.”
Meanwhile, Sonam’s father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, has denied the police’s version, insisting his daughter is innocent and accusing local authorities of rushing to judgment.
