The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain in many districts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, until June 10.
According to the IMD, heavy rain is likely in areas like Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
Other places like Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Bharuch, and Tapi may see light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds of 30–40 km/h.
Monsoon Expected After June 14–15
The monsoon had started early this year in Kerala and Mumbai but has now stopped moving forward. Because no new weather system is forming, the monsoon is not moving toward Gujarat yet.
The IMD says that South Gujarat, including Surat, will likely start getting proper monsoon rain around June 14–15.
On Tuesday, Surat recorded a high temperature of 34.2°C and a low of 29°C. Humidity was 73%, and wind was blowing from the southwest at 12 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 25 km/h in the afternoon.
Although clouds have been forming for several days and some areas have seen sudden rainfall with strong winds, steady rain has not started yet.
Meteorologists say the monsoon is stuck over Mumbai and Maharashtra. A weather system had earlier formed over the Arabian Sea (near Ratnagiri and Mahabaleshwar), bringing rain to that area, but it weakened before reaching Gujarat.
Now, experts believe a new system may form over the Arabian Sea, which could help push the monsoon toward Gujarat. Usually, Gujarat receives light showers at the end of May or early June, but full monsoon rain begins around June 14–15 and the same is expected this year too.
