The District Education Officer (DEO) of the city, Rohit Chaudhari, has sent show-cause notices to three schools for breaking rules under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The schools — Mukt Jivan School, Nelson School, and United Valley School — were either charging extra fees from students admitted under the 25% RTE quota or forcing parents to buy books and school items from specific shops, which is not allowed under the RTE Act.
The notices were issued after parents complained. According to the DEO office, Mukt Jivan School was collecting ₹1,000 as an admission fee from RTE students. Nelson School, which had already been fined ₹10,000 earlier for a similar violation, was again found asking parents to buy books from private publishers. United Valley School was also found using private publication books.
The schools have been given two days to respond to the notices.
Meanwhile, the NSUI also raised concerns on Tuesday about schools ignoring the DEO’s circular by charging fees from RTE students and forcing parents to buy school items from specific sellers.
